The Ultimate Summer Guide to Kansas City

Kansas City has a way of coming alive in the summer. The fountains are flowing, backyard briskets are smoking, and there’s something happening on just about every corner. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or just starting to explore everything this city has to offer, summer in KC is hard to beat. (Especially this year!) Here’s a look at some of the best.

FIFA World Cup 2026â„¢

This summer, Kansas City is one of the official host cities for the FIFA World Cup 2026, and the energy across the metro is unlike anything the city has seen before. Whether you’re catching a match at a bar or joining thousands of fans at an official watch party, there’s no shortage of ways to be part of the moment.

The FIFA Fan Festivalâ„¢ at the National WWI Museum and Memorial is the flagship experience: a massive free festival with giant video boards, live headliners like The Chainsmokers, Sheryl Crow, and Tech N9ne, and a buzzing atmosphere all tournament long. Downtown, Soccer in the City at KC Live! in the Power & Light District offers free admission with large screens and live pre- and post-match entertainment. Over in KCK, Kick it in KCK at Memorial Hall brings nine climate-controlled free watch parties on massive LED screens alongside the One World Wyandotte Street Festival, featuring food and live cultural showcases. For a more laid-back local experience, Casual Animal Brewing Co. in the Crossroads Arts District is screening every live match on a 17-foot big screen with $7 pints all day.

And on Sunday, July 5, the FIFA Fan Festival goes pet-friendly for Dog Days, a special event in partnership with Purina where you can bring your dog and score a limited-edition customizable Purina x KC2026 Pet Kit while supplies last.

Stars & Stripes Picnic & FIFA Fan Festival

This Fourth of July weekend, the Stars & Stripes Picnic at the National WWI Museum and Memorial is the place to be, and there are two ways to experience it. Penn Valley Park is free and open to the public with no pass required: bring your own food and drinks, enjoy a relaxed picnic atmosphere, and still hear all the performances and programming through a dedicated sound system. Want to get closer to the action? The FIFA Fan Festival is also free but requires a pass, and puts you up close to the main acts including Lost Wax and DJ Ashton Martin, plus World Cup game broadcasts, additional music, and access to food and drink vendors inside. It’s one of the biggest Fourth of July events in the Midwest, and this year it has a World Cup twist that makes it especially worth checking out.

KC’s Lawn Party at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

One of the community’s finest art institutions throws a citywide picnic every summer, and this year Kansas City’s Lawn Party returns to the lawn of The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art on Sunday, July 19, from 4 to 8 p.m. In celebration of the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park and National Parks and Recreation Month, the Nelson-Atkins and KC Parks and Rec team up for the biggest lawn party in KC, filled with live music, activities, and food trucks. It’s a relaxed, family-friendly afternoon on one of the most beautiful museum grounds in the country. (And it’s free!)

The 18th & Vine Jazz District

Summer is the perfect time to explore Kansas City’s legendary jazz roots. The historic 18th and Vine district is home to the American Jazz Museum and the Blue Room, a fully functioning jazz club where live performances keep the city’s signature sound alive. For late-night energy, the Mutual Musicians Foundation hosts jam sessions that don’t even start until 1 AM on weekends: a true insider KC experience. For a nightly vibe with no cover charge, the Green Lady Lounge offers red velvet walls and world-class performances any night of the week.

Ethnic Enrichment Festival

Every August, the Ethnic Enrichment Festival invites Kansas Citians to spend the day traveling the world without ever boarding a plane. Held at Swope Park, the weekend extravaganza brings together food, dancing, and music representing dozens of countries and ethnic groups from across the globe. It’s one of the most beloved end-of-summer traditions in the city and a great reminder of just how rich and diverse the KC community really is.
